Gentle, Personalized Massage Support During Cancer Treatment and Recovery

At Radiant Health Massage LLC, we provide compassionate oncology massage for individuals who are undergoing cancer treatment, recovering from surgery or treatment, receiving palliative care, or living with a history of cancer.

Oncology massage is not a single massage technique. It is an individualized approach in which traditional massage methods are carefully modified according to a person’s diagnosis, treatment history, symptoms, medications, energy level, surgical history, and overall health.

Every session is designed around your comfort, safety, and personal needs.

What Is Oncology Massage?

Oncology massage is a specialized form of massage therapy for people who have been diagnosed with cancer.

A standard massage may not account for the physical changes and medical precautions associated with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, lymph-node removal, ports, scar tissue, fatigue, neuropathy, bone involvement, blood-clot risk, or lymphedema risk.

During an oncology massage session, pressure, positioning, session length, treatment areas, and massage techniques may all be modified. Some clients may receive very gentle, slow massage, while others may tolerate more traditional relaxation or therapeutic techniques.

The approach is determined by your current health—not simply by the type of cancer you have had.

Who May Receive Oncology Massage?

Oncology massage may be appropriate for individuals who are:

  • Currently receiving chemotherapy or radiation treatment

  • Preparing for or recovering from cancer-related surgery

  • Experiencing fatigue or muscular tension during treatment

  • Living with a history of cancer

  • In remission or survivorship

  • Receiving palliative or supportive care

  • Experiencing changes following lymph-node removal

  • At risk for developing lymphedema

  • Seeking gentle relaxation and compassionate therapeutic touch

A previous cancer diagnosis remains important even when treatment ended several years ago. Your complete medical and treatment history helps determine which techniques and areas are appropriate for your session.

How the Session Is Customized

Before treatment begins, we will discuss your diagnosis, cancer treatments, surgeries, medications, treatment side effects, medical devices, current symptoms, and any recommendations from your healthcare team.

Your session may be modified by adjusting:

  • Massage pressure

  • Session duration

  • Positioning and bolstering

  • Areas treated or avoided

  • Temperature and table comfort

  • Pace of the massage

  • Amount of movement or stretching

  • Frequency of position changes

Areas affected by recent surgery, radiation, tumors, medical devices, open wounds, infection, blood clots, or other medical concerns may need to be avoided or treated only after medical clearance.

Possible Supportive Benefits

Oncology massage is intended to provide supportive comfort and relaxation. Depending on the individual, a carefully adapted session may help:

  • Encourage relaxation

  • Reduce stress and anxiety

  • Ease general muscular tension

  • Promote a greater sense of comfort

  • Support rest and sleep

  • Reduce feelings of isolation

  • Improve overall well-being during a difficult period

  • Provide nurturing, respectful therapeutic touch

Results vary, and no specific outcome can be guaranteed.

Oncology Massage and Lymphedema Risk

Cancer treatments involving lymph-node removal, radiation, surgery, or damage to the lymphatic system may increase a person’s risk of developing lymphedema.

Oncology massage and manual lymphatic drainage are not automatically the same service. Your medical history will be reviewed carefully to determine which type of care is appropriate.

Clients with swelling, heaviness, tightness, skin changes, or known lymphedema may require a separate lymphatic assessment, medical clearance, or care from a qualified lymphedema professional.

Your First Appointment

Your first visit includes a detailed health intake and consultation. Please be prepared to share information concerning:

  • Your diagnosis

  • Current and previous treatments

  • Recent surgeries

  • Lymph nodes removed or treated

  • Radiation areas

  • Ports, pumps, drains, or other medical devices

  • Blood-clot history

  • Medications

  • Neuropathy or altered sensation

  • Current swelling or lymphedema

  • Bone involvement or bone fragility

  • Instructions from your physician or oncology team

Medical clearance may be requested when necessary to help ensure that massage is appropriate and can be provided safely.
